Bible Tattoos: Part I

Bible Tattoos: Part I
Tattoo Ideas3 min Read

There’s a lot of tattoos out there and even more Christians, but there’s not a lot of Christian tattoos, at least not a lot of quality ones.
It took some time to compile a collection of Christian carvings, tattoos with deep meaning of course but also ones that were well done. I’ve even included some of my personal compilation. It’s such a cool thing to see a ‘bridge in the gap’ with genuine believers who are tattooed, it’s just not expected and the unexpected is always more interesting. Another awesome oddity is tattoo artists who are Christian.
To a lot of people Christian tattoos sounds like an oxymoron. It’s not often that God and tattoos are involved in the same conversation and if they are it probably has to do with the book of Leviticus. At first glance it appears that Christians and tattoos don’t mix which would be a valid argument, except that only using the verses in Leviticus chapter 19 is taking things out of context. Tattoos, no matter your belief system, are a personal decision. At the end of the day it’s just you and your tattoo. So if you have peace about getting a bible verse permanently put on then go ahead, if not, it’s perfectly okay to remain a blank canvas. Bringing up scripture is not meant to spark some ‘should or should not’ debate on tattoos, plenty God talk can be found on my blog. It just so happens that scripture is what the tattoos in this article are based on. See if this Jesus ink spark something in your heart.
Starting the tattoos of with a bang, or Bang Bang since that's where this crucifix was tattooed. Remarkable shading complete with INRI above Christ's head, meaning "King of the Jews" in Hebrew. The detail is crazy seriously, zoom in on this thing.

Pretty much the perfect spot for this tattoo based on 2 Corinthians 5:7. Foot tattoos are no joke so I'm sure the experience was a solid reminder to keep the faith.

Great finger tattoos. Love the style. What a world it would be if we humbly prayed this way a little more often.

Girls rock tattoos, even a big tattoo on the back. Trust His plan, easier said then done but it can be done. Maybe a tattoo like hers would be a good reminder.

The back of the arm is fitting for this design. XP is Christ in Greek and the symbols on either side are also Greek for Alpha and Omega. In total the composition reads; "Christ, Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end."

Heavy black works well in this portrait. It's always refreshing to see a skillful rendition of Jesus.

The Christian fish was once a symbol used to mark places where believers could meet in secret because doing so was illegal ><> Thankfully we now have freedom of worship and religion, so this tattooed cowboy can show it off as long as he likes.

It doesn't get much more sentimental than a tattoo in the handwriting of a loved one.

Quirky spot for a quote, the small font sort of makes it work. They're lyrics that allude to a bible verse.

How blessed we are might not be the first thought looking at that last photo, the chiseled abs and smoldering eyes are a bit distracting.

It's important to remember why we shouldn't judge: "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brothers eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?  Or how can you say to your brother, 'let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."-Matthew 7:1-5

I'm a follower of Christ who happens to be a writer and loves tattoos. My collection is growing, I'm officially in the double digits. If I was hardcore I'd have sleeves, one literary arm and the other biblical. Whether tattoos are main stream or back-alley I'll always enjoy the art form, particularly soft black and gray and script. I'm a fall kind of person who loves dogs. Follow me on Instagram @genevieverose1922
