The entire tattoo community feels for our brother Ross Nagle as he mourns the loss of his baby girl Lola who passed abruptly from meningitis
Ross, ever the strong and kind hearted man, has transformed his grief into a will to change the world, so that no other child shall face this horrible disease again.
Ross' mission to help the fight against meningitis led to him launching a charity tattooing event at one of his shops in Ireland, All Star Tattoo. Last week, on Sunday the 14th of June, Ross and his kind friends partnered with ACT for Meningitis, offering butterfly tattoo walk-ins for €50. All proceeds went directly to the charity, in this fundraiser in loving memory of Lola Jane Nagle. Below you can see the flyer of the event.
The five resident artists at All Star Tattoo (Paul O'Rourke, Damion Ross, Jesse Gordon, Eric Zona, and Ross himself) worked non-stop all day on Sunday for over 15 hours. People lined up around the block to show their solidarity for Ross.
During the event, awareness was spread in the form of small lectures and talks on this dreadful disease, which can cause such a swift sickness and, in the worst cases, it can be deadly. As people were tattooed, they would receive a small token of remembrance, a picture of Lola with the hashtag #agiftfromlola. Artists from around the world contributed to the cause as well by donating prints, flash, references, and even tattoo machines to be sold at the event.
By the end of the day, 20,000 euros had been collected, making the event a huge success. And if you were unable to go, but still would like to help this cause, you can access the ACT for Meningitis site to make a donation. Any amount helps..
It is unimaginable to try to understand Ross' grief, but the success of this event, even though it is bittersweet, has certainly made us all sure that Lola's star is shining brighter in the sky.
